LAFAYETTE
By PEGGY WISE --- 864-2389
This week has been a blend of
sunshine and raspberry plants. 1
think we dug 30 or 40 dozen. Ev-
eryone is beginning to get the
"itchy shovel" and make noises
like gardeners. The crocus and
daffodils are getting real brave
and don't seem to be worrying
about the snow. I have some pic-
tures of crocus and daffodils
peeking up thru the snow.a cou-
ple of years ago but we hope that
doesn't happen every year.
The Lafayette Rebekahs met at
the City Hall on Thursday even-
ing. Ethel Scoggins attended the
meeting. She has been staying
with relative~ in Tigard but came
home for this club meeting and
for installation officers. Those in-
stalled were Ethel, M. Ericson,
and Ruth Totten.
Ken and Julianne Bauer spent
the weekend at the Mock home.
It looked like a working week-
end with most of their time spent
working in the orchard. They
took Margaret out for dinner as
a birthday present. Mrs. Thomas
Murphy of Portland went along
with the folks to dinner. Johnny
Mock and a group of students and
teachers from Chemeketa College
are going to Ashland next week
for the Shakespeare plays.

Sue Thair tells me that Sandy
Lewis, her daughter, is going out
of the Stanley Products business
because of teaching commitments
and to spend more time with her
family. Being a Stanley dealer--
and Sandy was a real good one--
takes a lot more time than it
would appear on the surface.
Gary Thomason has just re-
turned from a business trip to
Anchorage, Alaska and points in
between. Gary has been very ac-
tive in the Community Dovelop-
ment Committee as he under-
stands- almost -- what to do
when applying for Government
Grants ~as he deals with them in
his line of work.
I see Dane Clemens walking
around town so it would seem
he is feeling pretty good and for
a fellow who has just recently
had open heart surgery, he was
moving right along up the hill.
Naomi Klingler is a patient at
the Newberg Hospital.

to the Rhinelander for dinner on
Saturday night. Nell and Bruce
Hodgins attended the basketball BICYCLES
game between Dayton and Sheri-
Kenya, on the east coast of Afri-
ca, as a member of Tactical Elec-
tronic Warfare Squadron 137.
He is embarked with the squad-
ron aboard the nuclear-powered
attack aircraft carrier USS En-
terprise, ozi a deployment in the
Indian Ocean.
A public hearing will be held
by the Lafayette Community
Development Committee Friday
evening at 7:30 pm, in the La-
fayette City Hall. Members of
the committee will explain the
application made by the city for
funds under the federal Com-
munity Development Act and

posed water project.

Agnes Merrill has returned
home from a week's stay in the
Newberg hospital. The doctors
were able to relieve her condition
without an operation. Weare glad
she is home again. The ladies at
the Health Spa sent Agnes a nice
card and also took up a collection
so we could buy her a lovely ar-
rangement of carnations.
Dont forget the Community De-
velopment meeting upstairs at
the city hal on Friday, Feb. 28.
There will be committee members
present to answer questions and
explain the HUD grant program
as it relates to Lafayette.
