A course "A Fascinating Wo-
man", will be presented at the
Hopewell SDA Church, beginning
Monday, March 11 at 7 p.m.-9
p.m., with Mrs. Gladys Kurtz as
teacher. The course will continue
for eight weeks, and for infor-
mation, please contact Mrs. Faith
Campbell, Mrs. Jean Bartell or
Mrs. Miriam Withers.
Rev Dolph Ballantyne of Mar-
ion, Indiana, showed pictures of
his trip to Honduras, Ecuador,
Peru and Bolivia, last fall, visit-
ing missionaries supported by
the Evangelical Church of North
America and the World Gospel
Mission. He and Mrs. Ballantyne
enjoyed their stay with Sid and
Thelma Crawley, former residents
of this area, who are dentists in
Ascencion, Bolivia, and also Miss
Rachel Saint, sister of one of the
martyred missionaries to the Au-
ca Indians. She has a flourishing
Christian work among that for-
merly savage tribe. He also spoke
of the Wycliffe Translators of the
Bible, who work in the Honduras
area. He showed the pictures at
the Hopewell Church.
Rev. Gene Mayer of Sacramen-
to, Calif., will hold evangelistic
meetings at the Hopewell Com-
munity Church at 7 p.m,, each
evening, Feb. 27-28, March 1 and
two services Sunday, March 3.
The following week he will speak
at the Unionvale Community
Church March 5-8, and two serv-
ices on Sunday, March 10. Every-
one is cordially invited to attend
these services.
March 2, the men of the Hope-
well and Unionvale Community
Churches will attend the Men's
Congress at Jennings Lodge, cli-
maxing with a banquet in the
evening.
The newly organized Young
Married Peoples' Class of the
Hopewell and Unionvale Com-
munity Church Sunday Schools
will meet at the Hopewell Church
at 11 a.m., following the morning
service at 9:45 a.m. All young
married people are invited to par-
ticipate.
The Hopewell Ladies Aid will
celebrate the January and Feb-
ruary birthdays of members and
friends on Wednesday afternoon,
Feb. 27, at 1:30 p.m. Regular
quilting will be held in the morn-
ing, beginning at 9:30 a.m. Those
honored are Mrs. Sylvia Taskin-
en, Mrs. Carl Pajala, Mrs. George
Kangas, Mrs. John Ojua and Mrs.
Margaret Janzen. All ladies of
the community are invited to at-
tend.
Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs.
Henry Deedon were Mr. and Mrs.
O. R. Dunberg of Portland, and
they enjoyed a dinner of Norweg-
ian dishes, lutefisk and lessa.

Ludwig accompanied by a large
group of the Boys Brigade, which
meets each Tuesday evening at
the Unionvale Church Gym en-
joyed a smelt fishing expedition
along the Columbia River on the
Washington side on Monday after-
noon.

Polvi were Mr. and Mrs. Kirby
Johnson of Salem.
Mr. and Mrs. Evan Erand of
Sheridan were Sunday guests of
Mrs. Rebecca McKinley and Mrs.
Lula Smith. Other guests during

tor Baler and Mrs. Georgia Mull
of Salem, and Mrs. Beulah Reed.

Weekend guests of John Snell-
man were his sisters, Mrs. Irene
Stierna and son Bob and Mr. and
Mrs. Ted Nurmi of LongView,
Wash. Mrs. Mae Po]vi visited
with them in the afternoon, and
celebrated Mr. Snellman's birth-
day.
Mrs. John Ojua and her sister,
Mrs. Helmi Juntunen of McMinn-
villa enjoyed a trip to California
and Arizona in January and Feb-
ruary. They visited Mr. and Mrs.
Richard Juntunen and family of
San Diego, and toured the San
Diego Zoo, and Wild Animal
Park and other points of interest
during their stay. Then they went
to Yuma, Ariz., to visit Mr. and
Mrs. John Niemi, schoolmates of
theirs in North Dakota, saw the
orange and date groves, and drove
through the Lawrence Welk es-
tate. From there they went to
Claremont, Calif., to visit Mr. and
Mrs. James Lucke and family and
a trip to Disneyland. They spent
Valentine's Day and Mrs. Ojua's .........
birthday with Mr. and Mrs. Larry
Rasaka and family of Modesto,
and toured Sonora and the Mark
Twain country. They visited Mr.
and Mrs. John Chezen and family
of Dailey City, near San F~ancis-
co, and then to McKinleyville,
near Eureka, to visit Mr. and
Mrs. William Mattila and family.
They arrived in Salem by bus
Feb. 21 and were guests of Mr.
and Mrs. Jan Widmer and fam-
ily of Brush College, and home
the next day from a delightful
trip.
Mrs. Sylvia Taskinen was a
Sunday guest of her daughter,
Mrs. Ila Sehuchardt and family
of McMinnville, and attended the
baptism of her granddaughter
Debbie Schuchardt at the Chris-
tian Church in McMinnville.
Mr. and Mrs. O. H. Johnson
of McMinnville were Sunday
guests of Mrs. Lillian Risser.
