Hopewell
Clair and Faye Stephens re-
turned last week from a three-week
trip to California. They visited
daughter Helen and husband Ran
Beach. Also three of Faye's sisters
and a brother.
Mr. and Mrs. Carl Schreiner and
Leah visited Hopewell Feb. 24th.
They were dinner guests of the Jim
Sargeants of Dayton.

picture is to be taken of it to enter a
national contest.
The Hopewell Moonlighter
Home Extension Unit will meet
Monday evening, March 5 at 7 pm
at the home of Mrs. Dennis Dumler
at 7 pm. Mrs. Lloyd Rae and Mrs.
Don Rae are the project leaders for
the lesson, "Public School Fi-
nance", and all women of the com-
munity are invited.
The "Stop Smoking Clinic" at
the Hopewell SDA Church each
evening, Feb. 26-March 2 in charge
of Elder Ray Mitchell and Dr.
Ronald Fleck of Sheridan was well
attended.
Mr. and Mrs. Kirby Johnson of
Salem and Mr. and Mrs. Pete
Setala of Gresham were Sunday
callers at the home of Mrs. Esther
Polvi. Monday afternoon guest was
Mrs. Elsie Marx of McMinnville.
J. B. Hart returned to his home
last Tuesday from the Salem Mem-
orial Hospital, and is recovering
satisfactorily from surgery. A large
group of friends visited them Fri-
day evening.
Mr. and Mrs. William O. Pearse
and daughter Stephanie of Portland
visited his grandparents, Mr. and
Mrs. N. O. Pearse on Sunday
afternoon.
Mr. and Mrs. N. O. Pearse were
guests of Mr. and Mrs. Robert
Pearse of West Linn Tuesday, Feb.
27 to celebrate Robert's birthday.
Mr. and Mrs. Edward Priem of St.
Helens, parents of Mrs. Robert
Pearse were also guests.
Mr. and Mrs. Victor Beier of
Salem and Mrs. Virginia Carson of
Sweet Home were Sunday guests of
Mrs. Rebecca McKinely and Mrs.
Georgia Mull. Mrs. Beier is con-
valescing from recent surgery.
Mr. and Mrs. Elton Ingrain re-
turned Thursday from a two week
vacation in Arizona, visiting their
uncles Mr. and Mrs. Glen Ballard
of Quartsite, and Mr. and Mrs.
Rogers Woolley of Tucson and
other relatives. They report very
pleasant weather during their stay.

Church News
The Sunday School teachers and
officers of both Sunday Schools met
at the Unionvale Church to discuss
methods with Jerry Trent as lead-
er, Monday evening, Feb. 26.
Tuesday morning, Men's prayer
breakfast at the Unionvale Church
and the women's quilting later in
the day.
Ladies Aid Quilting at Hopewell
Church, and on Wednesday at 9 am
and in the evening, and the Mar-
riage Encounter meeting will be
held at the Philip Darling Home in
the evening.
Men's Congress will be held at
the Jennings Lodge Assembly
Grounds Friday evening, Saturday,
and Sunday till after noon. Rev.
Charles Ludwig and several of the
men of the Hopewell and Unionvale
Churches plan to attend.
Sunday evening services of the
Hopewell and Unionvale Churches
will be held at the Unionvale
Church during the month of March.
Sunday evening March 4, Miss
Jane Poole of West Salem will be
guest speaker on the topic "Right
to Life", and everyone is cordially
invited to attend.
