For the l~t two years though I have not gone to church and ! have done some things that I am quite ashamed of. 1 want to be dose to God again but 1 Just do not know hew to begin. Could you please help me? Thank you for writing, and yes I will be glad to help. May I begin by saying that you have already taken the biggest step in once again becoming close to God. That is, you have recognized your need. With- out first recognizing our need for God we can never have close fel- lowship with Him. Having recognized your need the next thing to do is confess your sin to God. l John 1:9 says, "If we confess our sin He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sin, and to cleanse us from all unrighteous- ness." That is one of the most beautiful promises in the Bible. Confession means to say the same thing about your sin that God says. We need to say God I know I have done wrong and now I am going to try my best to turn the other direction and live as you want me to live. Friend when we do that there is no sin, no matter how large it seems to us, that God will not forgive. Finally, begin today to work at your relationship with God. Spirit- ual growth is not automatic. It must be worked at. Go to GOd in prayer daily. Read the Bible daily. Be sure to fellowship with God's people regularly in a local church. Re- member, God is desirous of your fellowship. When you turn away and lose contact with Him, He is always there with wide open arms ready to take you back.
