Bicycle Roadeo", sponsored by

In the observance of volunteer
week, Gov. and Mrs. Straub in-
vited volunteer workers from all
over Oregon to a special "Day at
the Legislature" last week. In-
cluded in the guest list were the
Magurens of Hopewell, for their
contributions of music at th(
State Hospital chapel services for
the past few years. Mac and Elea-
nor and David are currently
working with the Robert Jones'
of Salem, as the "Er~tertainers,"
playing and singing in nursing
homes each week.
Rev. and Mrs. Ivan Carroll, re-
tired missionaries from Banga-
lore, India, showed pictures of
India and their work there among
the village people at the Hope-
well Community Church Sunday
evening, April 27. They operated
an ambulance for emergency
need, taught music in a blind
schol, and helped provide print-
ed material for Daily Vacation
Bible School and trained students
in the Bible School to, conduct
Vacation Bible Schools in the vil-
lages in the area. New Mission-
aries are not allowed to enter the
country, so the great need to
train the natives to carry .on
Christian work there. Rev. and
Mrs. Carroll plan to do Home
Mission work for the World Gos-
pel Mission
A Family Bible School will be
held at the Hopewell Community
'Church beginning May 5 to 9th,
at 7 PM, with the West family of
Salem providing Bible stories,
puppet plays, magic, rabbits, and
the grand prize for bringing the
most children will be an 18 foot
candy bar. Mr. and Mrs. West and
family were at the Sunday School
April 27, and showed .the candy
bar, and demonstrated the pup-
pets and magic, which was of
great interest to all. Everyone in
the community is invited to par-
ticipate during this coming week.
The Hopewell Ladies Aid birth-
day party wilI be heId Wednes-
day afternoon, May 7, at 1:30 pm
for all the ladies in the neigh-
borhood with March and April
birthdays.
The I-Iopewell Missionary So-
ciety will hold a work day at the
home of Mrs. N. O. Pearse Tues-
day, May 13 at 10 am, to wrap
packages of cards, plastic medi-
caring for her until she is strong
enough to care for herself.
