long trip, get ,brothers and sisters
to cooperate with one another

WHAT IS SILICONE FINISH
USED ON COOKWARE? This is
a finish, somewhat like fluoro-
carbon resin (suCh as Teflon) but
has some of the characteristics of
glass. It is less costly th,an Tef-
lon but scratches ~asily and dis-
colors if not properly cleaned.
Thoroughly clean in hot water
with detergent or soap.
POLYSTYRENE PLASTIC used
in refrigerator door liners ,and
Storage containers is damaged by
oils, boiling water, and-d~'Y clean-
ing fluids such as acetone. How-
ever, it is resistant to ordinary
chemicals, is ,lightweight and re-
pels moisture.
Clean polystyrene with deter-
gen~ solution, borax or baking
soda in water. It is damaged by
chlorine bleach. Color stains are
impossible to remove.
USE YOUR VACUUM cleaner
wi~h floor brush .or a dry mop for
daily dusting to make floor wax
or polish last longer. Don't use
an oily mop. This makes wax
sticky.
BOTHERED WITH unmarked
items received through the mail?
The new postal regulation act
bans this practice except if the
package is clearly marked "free
sample' or if it is from a char-
itabl.e organization seeking a con-
tri`bution.
Even then, you may use the
item or discard it without paying
for it. It is i~llegal for the sender
to request payment.
PUDDINGS come frozen, re-
frigerated, cann:ed, pockaged as
mixes -- some to be cooked and
some as "instant." Which are
most econon~cal ?
Velma SC~t, Oregon State Urii-
versity Extension food marketing
specialist, saYs costs v~ry consid- r
erably so it pays to compare. If 1
pu~lding is made from scratch it
costs about 6 cents per serving if
the recipe uses egg. Regular dry
pudding mixes cost about 8 cents
per serving while instant pud-
ding (after adding milk) also
costs about 8 cents per serving.
Canned puddings will cost about
10 cents a serving while those
packaged in individual servings
may run up to 16 cents. Frozen
puddings average about 12 cents
per serving. The most costly of
all are the new refrigerated purl-
