7 Pastor's Corner Dear Pastor Skip, My Husband and ] have been experiencing problems lately. It seems like our marriage has be. come stagnant. What help can you give me? It is easy to see that in our society today the institution of marriage is on uneasy ground. Our state has one of the highest divorce rates in the nation. Four years ago "sixty-five percent of Oregon-mar- riages ended in divorce. Last year in some Oregon counties there give you some basic principles that can help any marriage. Norm Wright, a family counselor has written a book by the title of "Communication, Key to Your Marriage." I believe that the title of this book hits the nail right on the head. No relationship, mar- riage or otherwise can stand if the lines of communication break down. Communication between a husband and wife is essential. A marriage where an atmosphere exists allowing both parties to share their beliefs and ideas no THURSDAY, MAY 21, 1981 THE DAYTON TRIBUNE not mean that problems will cease to exist, but they can be worked out by simply talking. Communication has saved many marriages. The best example 1 know of this is prayer. For a couple to daily pray together necessitates open com- munication. Surveys have shown that couples who regularly pray together have a divorce rate of only five percent. That is much lower than the national level of over fifty-percent. Communication is the key to a marriage. The Bible speaks plainly about the need to communicate. Notice the principles found in these vers- es. "Speak the truth in love" (Ephesians 4:25). "Do not let the sun go down on your anger" SDA Church Dr. Harold Follett, attorney practicing in Portland and living at Gaston was the speak~ on May 16th for church service. Graduation exercises for the eighth grade class will be held May 28 at the McMinnville church 7:30 pro. Pastor Ray Mitchell, former Hopewell-Sheridan pastor will be the speaker. Jeffrey Pearles and Kristy Johnson from Hopewell church will be in the class. Jeff is class president, Kristy is treasurer.
