Pastor's Corner
Dear Pastor Skip,
My Husband and ] have been
experiencing problems lately. It
seems like our marriage has be.
come stagnant. What help can you
give me?
It is easy to see that in our
society today the institution of
marriage is on uneasy ground. Our
state has one of the highest divorce
rates in the nation. Four years ago
"sixty-five percent of Oregon-mar-
riages ended in divorce. Last year
in some Oregon counties there
give you some basic principles that
can help any marriage.
Norm Wright, a family counselor
has written a book by the title of
"Communication, Key to Your
Marriage." I believe that the title
of this book hits the nail right on
the head. No relationship, mar-
riage or otherwise can stand if the
lines of communication break
down. Communication between a
husband and wife is essential. A
marriage where an atmosphere
exists allowing both parties to
share their beliefs and ideas no

not mean that problems will cease
to exist, but they can be worked out
by simply talking. Communication
has saved many marriages.
The best example 1 know of this
is prayer. For a couple to daily pray
together necessitates open com-
munication. Surveys have shown
that couples who regularly pray
together have a divorce rate of only
five percent. That is much lower
than the national level of over
fifty-percent. Communication is the
key to a marriage.
The Bible speaks plainly about
the need to communicate. Notice
the principles found in these vers-
es. "Speak the truth in love"
(Ephesians 4:25). "Do not let the
sun go down on your anger"
