F~dteen women of the Hopewell
and Unionvale Community
Churches attended the Evangeli.
cal Women's Retreat at Cannon
Beach Campgrounds Friday to
Sunday, May 19 They were among
405 women from all the Evangel--
ical Churches of this area. Mrs.
Dolph Ballantyne, wife of the Su-
perintendent of the churches,
was one of the speakers Most of
the women from here gave re-
ports of their experiences at the
Sunday evening service of the
Unionvale Church.
A large group of friends and
relatives of Rev. and Mrs. Walter
R. Rowley of Silverton, former
pastor of the Hopewell and Un-
ionvale Community Churches, at,
tended the 4Oth wedding anniver-
sary party in their honor at the
home of their son, Mr. and Mrs.
Herbert Rowley of Keizer, on Sun-
day afternoon, May 19.
Mrs. H. L. Maguren was in-
stalled Friday, May 17 as First
Vice-President of the Salem Wo-
men's Club.
Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Maguren at-
tended a birthday "party for Clif-
ford Maguren of Salem on the oc~
casion of his 90th birthday, at
the Salem Deepwood Mansion,
Sunday afternoon, May 19. An.
other brother, Mr. and Mrs. Ken-
neth Maguren of Salem were
hosts for the party.
Recent guests of Mr. ~nd Mrs.
Henry Deeoon to honor Mrs. Dee-
don on her birthday were Mr. and
Mrs. Robert Currie of Yamhill,
Mr. and Mrs. Art Hauser and
family of Aurora and Mr. and
Mrs. Emerson Sin~ and family of
Portland.
Mrs. Rebecca McKinley and
Mrs. Lula Smith accompanied
Mr. and Mrs. Victor Beier of Sa-
lem to the Washington Square
Shopping Center in Beaverton,
for a sightseeing trip on Sunday,
May 19.
Mr. and Mrs. Kirby Johnson of
Salem were Sunday guests of
Mrs. Esther Polvi.
Mr, and Mrs. Carl Pajala were
Sunday afternoon guests of Mrs.
Margaret Janzen.
Mr. and Mrs. John Geisler were
Sunday guests of her granddaugh-
ter, Mr. and Mrs. Allen Brown

Mr.-and Mrs. N. O. Pearse at-
tended the morning service at
the First Baptist Church in Sa-
lem, when Dr. Lloyd Anderson of
West Covina, Calif., preached, as
the first part of the dedication of
the new sanctuary and Sunday
School rooms, just finished re-
cently. Dr. Anderson was a for-
mer pastor of the church. The
formal dedication of the church
was held in the afternoon, and in
the evening Sen. Mark Haffield
was guest speaker.
Mr. and Mrs. N.O. Pearse
called on Mr. and Mrs. Clarence
Legg of Salem Sunday afternoon.
Mr. Legg is recovering from a
cataract operation. They also at-
tended the 40th wedding anniver-
sary party for Rev. and Mrs. Wal-
ter Rowley at the home of his
son, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Rowley
of Keizer.

Mrs. Katherine Hall of Rising
Sun, Maryland, is a houseguest of
her daughter, Mr. and Mrs. M. L.
Hodgson and family, arriving this
week for an extended visit.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Callander
were Sunday guests of Mr. and
Mrs. W. E. Callander.
Weekend guests of Veta Steph-
ens were Mr. and Mrs. Howard
Branson of Walla Walla, Wash.,
and their daughter, Mary Beth
Bransen, of Portland.
Mrs. Sylvia Taskinen visited
Mrs. Saima Garding of Woodland,
Wash., for several days last week
and was a guest of Mr. and Mrs.
Richard Nelson of McMinnville
on Sunday, May 19.
Mr. and Mrs. O. H. Johnson of
McMinnville were house guests
of Mrs. Lillian Risser for several
days last week.

ette Lutheran Home is also a
houseguest of Mrs. F. C. Stock-
hoff, to visit with her son, Mr.
and Mrs. Floyd Rickey of War-
saw, Missouri, and on Sunday af-
ternoon, she accompanied Mrs.
J. W. Ediger and Heidi to the
~lOth wedding anniversary party
in honor of Rev. and Mrs. Walter
Rowley at the Herbert Rowley
home in Keizer.

Church will be on a coastal re~
treat this weekend, May 24-26.
They will be near Beverly Beach.
Mrs. Wands Blum of Tillamook
has been here visiting her moth-
er, Mrs. Mariam Krake.
Mrs. Lena Filer and daughter,
Charlotte, had a belated Moth-
er's Day dinner Thursday evening
at McNary Country Club in Sa-
lem.

FORMED IN DAYTON MAY 14
The newly formed Yamhill
Count~ Art Assn. held its organ-
izational meeting on Tuesday,
May 14 in Dayton.
Officers elected were: Presi-
dent, Mrs. Tony Bonome, of Day-
ton; Vice-President, Mrs. L. D.
Stephens of Carlton and Secre-
tary-Treasurer, Mrs. Vernon Hoff-
man of Dayton.
Elected to the Advisory Board
were Mrs. Roy Young of Yam-
hill and Dr. Robert Bannister of
Lincoln City.
