Dayton Council Approves Raise
On Sewer Hookups, Hires Officer
The Dayton City Council, faced
with rising installation and material
costs, approved an amendment to
Ord. 339 raising water hookups in
the city.
The new water hookup fees will
be $750. The sewer hookup fee
remains the same at $750. Previous
cost for a water hookup was $250.
Hookup fees for multi-family
dwellings will be somewhat lower
for additional units.
A resolution and ordinance was
also passed setting a moratorium
on sewer hookups until expansion
of the sewer treatment lagoons is
completed. Federal funding for the
project was denied in recent allo-
cations but work will begin as soon
as funding is received.
Carl Francis was present at the
meeting to discuss the possibility of
the city sponsoring Centennial ac-
tivities. The Dayton Chamber of
Commerce is spearheading the
celebration planned for 1980, the
city's 100th anniversary. The
Council agreed to sponsor the
events if the Chamber cannot ob-
tain the necessary insurance in
time. The city will sponsor the
Pancake Feed, to be put on by the
Chamber, at the Dayton Fire Hall,
June 17, Father's Day. Proceeds
from the breakfast will go toward
Centennial activities.
Bert Armstrong was present to
discuss development of the city's
industrial park. City engineer Mike
Henry and city attorney Stan Bunn
will study the proposals and check
into funding.
A new police patrolman was also
hired by the Council Monday even-
ing. The new officer is from Ari-
zona where he has been working as
security on an Indian reservation.
A former resident of the area, Jim
Flood, is a former reserve and
full-time police officer with the
Yamhill-Carlton police department.
He will assist Chief of Police Harry
Yount.
In other action the Council ap-
proved purchase of a new police
car. Chuck Colvin was low bidder at
$5,264 for a Ford Fairmount with a
police package. Delivery is ex-
pected in the near future.
The building inspector will look
into reports of apartments being
built in garages inside the city
limits.
The council also accepted a letter
of retirement from Allen Lien. Lien
cited physician's advice in tender-
ing the retirement letter.
Kenny Akers of the Cantina
Room has withdrawn his request
for a Class A liquor license.
