The Hopewell Last Day of School
picnic was held at the school at 11
am and school was dismissed two
hours early.
June 12 at 6:30 pm, the Hopewell
Summer Baseball is scheduled to

~974 will have their 5th year
reunion with a potluck picnic at
Williamson Park June 10 at 1 pm.

Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Legg of
Salem visited Mr. and Mrs. N. O.
Pearse Friday. They operated the
H0pewell Store several years ago.
The Pearses were Sunday guests of
Mr. and Mrs. Ernie Rhone and
family Sunday.
Mrs. Nancy Cross of McMinn-
ville is a guest of Mrs. Beulah
Reed for a week or so.
UNIONVALE
Rev. and Mrs. Charles Ludwig
and family were Sunday guests of
Mr. and Mrs. Leon McGuire and
family of Amity. They enjoyed a
Thailand dinner prepared by Mr.
and Mrs. Chamrus Sakultarawattn
of St. Helens, who were weekend
guests with their four children for
the weekend with their aunt and
uncle, the McGuires. Mr. Sakul-
tarawattn was guest speaker at the
Hopewell Church Sunday evening.

Church News
Unionvale Church Council met
Tuesday evening for reports and
plans for the coming months, and
the Hopewell Church Council met
Thursday evening. Some progress
is reported on establishing the
parsonage on the Hopewell Church
property.
The Hopewell Missionary Soci-
ety will meet Tuesday, June 12 at
1:30 pm at the home of Mrs. Earl
Compton, south of Amity. Mrs.
Lyman Myers, formerly a mission-
ary to India, will be guest speaker.
All women of the community are
invited.
The Youth Fellowsh;p meetings
will be held on Wednesday even-
ings during the summer, beginning
June 13 at 6:30 pm. The senior
group will meet either at William-
son Park or Unionvale Church gym,
depending on the weather. All
young people are invited to par-
ticipate each week.
The Junior Youth Fellowship
group will enjoy a birthday party at
the Hopewell School gym June 13
at 6:30 pro. Mr. and Mrs. Ernie
Rhone are leaders of the junior
group. All children thru 6th grade
are invited to participate each
week.

Resident Dies

Services Held For
Lafayette Citizen
Olive G. Singleton, 95, of 553
Jefferson, Lafayette died last Fri-
day at a McMinnville hospital.
She was ben in Silver City, N.M
and moved to Lafayette in 1913.
She lived in Washington, D.C five
years and Pensacola, Fla five
years, then returned to Lafayette.
She was assistant postmistress
from 1901 to 1910 and 1932 to 1960.
She was a member of Rebekah,
Eastern Star and Spanish-Ameri-
can War Veterans Auxiliary.
Survivors include sister, Jose-
phine Wascher, Lafayette.
Graves|de services were Monday
in Evergreen Memorial Park, Mc-
Minnville, under the direction of
Macy & Son mortuary, McMinn-
ville. The family suggests contri-
butions to Mid-Valley Workshop.
Pot Luck, Theatre
Night Planned
A native of Hopewell, and long-
time Monmouth resident, Yvonne
Mull Sanders, 43, of Federal Way,
Wash died there Tuesday of a
heart attack. She lived in the Mon-
mouth area for 30 years before
moving to Washington.
Survivors include her husband,
Louis Terrell; daughters, Jeanne
Wheeler, California, and Sharon
Sanders, Federal Way; mother,
Georgia Mull, Hopewell; brothers,
Richard Mull, Korea, Dean Mull,
Eugene, Darrell, Gary, Eric and
Stephen Mull, Salem; grandmoth-
ers Rebecca McKinley, Hopewell,
and Estella Mull, Salem; and one
grandson.
Services were held in Auburn,
wash with interment in the Hope-
well Cemetery Saturday.
Former Dayton
Resident Dies
Former cook at the Dayton Grade
School, Mrs. Bessie Murphy, died
at the Tillamook Nursing Home
June 3. She was born in Wisconsin
May S, 1886.
She is survived by two sisters,
Mrs. Ruth Young of Seattle, Wash.
and Mrs. Elizabeth Foster of Day-
ton; two daughters, SteUa Mae
Blackmore and Harriet Thorne,
both of Nehalem, Ore seven
grandchidren and 15 great grand-
chidren.

Displaced Homemakers and Wid-
owed Persons will have a Dinner
Theatre Night Friday, June 22,
6-10 pro. Dinner at the Safari will
be followed by the show Same Time
Next Year, at Gallery Players.
Reservations must be made by
June 19th.
A potluck will be held Thursday,
June 14 starting at 6 pm at the
MAA building, 417 N. Adams,
McMinnville.

Elder Fred Hardin of Salem
spoke at church service June 2 and
also sang, accompanied by his
wife.
Sabbath School highlights:
Evangelism, Waldo Maker; special
music, Barry Oakes; Mission spot-
light on Sweden, Jim Jedel.
Associated M.V. at McMinnville
presented the "Drama of the
Faithful Ones" given by the Youth
department at S pm June 2. The
4:30 song service featured a variety
of musical numbers.
Saturday evening at 7:30 pm the
church met at the Bill Leigh home
for sunset vespers followed by a
farewell party for Bill Leigh Jr
who left June 4 for Alexandria,
Egypt where he will be working as
a ;tudent missionary for a year.

A reception was held Sunday
afternoon at the Jerry Williamson
home for daughter Lisa, a graduate
of Amity High School. Relatives
and friends came to wish her joy.
Cake and punch were served.
Monte Wood returned to his
home Thursday, May 31. He is em-
ployed on a freighter and had been
on a trip to Japan for about a
month.
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Barwit and
son Mr. and Mrs. Harold Barwit of
San Carlos, Calif visited Mr. and
Mrs. Paul Ellenberger Wednesday
afternoon. Henry Barwit is Mrs.
Ellenberger's uncle.
Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Ojua were
hosts for a family gathering on
Sunday afternoon following Larry
Ojua's graduation from Amity High
School.
Mrs. Carl Rasaka was hostess on
Tuesday afternoon for a baby
shower for Mrs. Randy Ojua and
son Jeremy Janes of McMinnville
with family and friends attending.
Mrs. George Kirkwood and Ron-
ald of Hillsboro were guests of
Mrs. Margaret Janzen on Sunday
and in the afternoon, Mr. and Mrs.
Robert Janzen and family came to
celebrate Mrs. Kirkwood's birth-
day.
