SATURDAY -- AUG. 2 11 am. Beer garden, old school grounds, (Inlet-Outlet Auction), Hwy 99W. 1 pm thru afternoon -- Barbeque ribs, salad and corn dinner, old school grounds. Phis Booths for all who want to set up tables. No charge for space. Donations accepted 12 noon -- Carnival opens, old school grounds. 1 pm to 4:30 pm. Yamhill County Historical Society Museum opens. 5:30 pm. Senior Center Dinner 6:30 pm. Parade. Starts at city park, down Market to 3rd, to Bridge, to 4th and Washington. 7:30 pm. Bingo game at Senior Center. SUNDAY, AUGUST 3 7 am to 1 pm -- Pancake breakfast, Lafayette City Park. 10 am -- Museum opens 12 noon -- Carnival opens, old school grounds 11 am -- Beer Garden opens, old school grounds. 12 noon -- Carnival opens, old school grounds. 2 pm to 7 pm -- Sunday brunch at Senior Center. The Lafayette Chamber of Commerce will have hand craft booths, dunk tank, and sell barbecued chicken at The Game Room, Hwy 99W., both Saturday and Sunday. A "petting farm" with small animals for the children to pet will also be at the Game Room. Other booths and activities will be available along Hwy 99W on the main street. I Petitions For Council Posts In Lafayette Open Petitions are now available for obtaining positions on the Novem- ber ballot for council and mayor posts ia Lafayette. :t .,Two council positions will be   for four years at the election, • V v,,de the mayor's position is for r- two years. ie Deadline for filing is August 15. BUSINESS AND PROFESSIONAL DI RECTORY Wins Tourney Eighteen men's and women's softball teams participated last weekend in the annual Slow-Pitch tournament held in Dayton. First place in the men's play was won by Ye Olde Pizza, followed by Mrs. Smith's Pies. The Sportsman came in third. In the women's tournament, Grizzly Bear took the first place trophy, with Ye Olde Pizza coming in second. Dayton Merchants placed third. This weekend, as part of the Dayton Centennial celebration, the Third Annual Dayton Invitational Fast Pitch tournament will be held. A Five-Day Stop Smoking Clinic will be held upstairs over City Hall in Lafayette August 11 through 15 at 7 o'clock each evening. "Talks, films, group discussion therapy and a Day-to-Day Control Pocket Manual are part of the proven techniques which make up the plan," says Bernell Clark, pastor of the McMinnville Seventh- Day Adventist Church, who coordi- nates the program. Pastor Clark says that the pro- gram's success rate has been high, with as many as 300,000 smokers in the United States quitting in one year on the plan. He says 85 percent of the persons who stay on the program for five nights are able to kick the habit. Physicians David Pfendler, Carl- son B. Menkel and Richard L. Nelson of McMinnville and Ron Fleck of Sheridan will present psy- chological and physiological princi- ples to help people stop smoking. There is no charge for this public clinic.
