Help Wanted
NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN
that the City Council of the City of
Dayton will hold a public hearing at
7:30 p.m. on Monday, August 1,
1977 tn the Dayton City Hall to
consider a proposed amendment to
the gambling ordinance to permit
social games.
Persons are hereby Invited to
attend the public hearing to ob-
serve the proceedings and to regis-
ter any statements in person, by
attorney, or mall to assist the City
Council in making a decision.
Copies of the ordinances are
available for Inspection at the Day-
ton City Hall.

grandson from Newport have been
recent visitors at the home of Mrs.
Florence Foster.
Mr. and Mrs. John Callahan and
children spent the weekend at a
campground near Carlton.
Mr. and Mrs. Chester Hall spent
five days in Madras recently. They
were with the Good Sam Trailer
Club of which they are members.
They report a very enjoyable time.
David Jackman and friend, Dav-

staying at the home of David Jack-
man's grandmother, Mrs. Florence

Mr. and Mrs. Robert Mosgrove
and children joined them.
Mrs. Norton Jo Patterson took
her mother, Mrs. Bertha Merry-
man and Mrs. Alvina Rue and
Peggy King to Vancouver Sunday
to attend a house-warming at the
home of Mrs. Patterson's sister
and Mrs. Merryman's daughter,
Mr. and Mrs. Dick Beaver.
Mrs. Ruth Reeder returned
home from Vancouver, wash.,
Sunday where she spent a week
with her sister-in-law, Mrs. Pearl
Winterstein. They made several
short trips to Castle Rock, Battle
Ground and picnic areas and had a
birthday party dinner. She attend-
ed a banquet and play which was
given by the hearing group from
Dallas, Texas, in the sign lan-
guage. The same group sang
hymns in the sign language at.

Mr. and Mrs. Larry Duzan and
family from Albany were Sunday
dinner guests at the home of his
grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest
Duzan.
Mrs. Ann Matthews from Sheri-
dan and granddaughter, Jennie
Latt from Eugene, and Mrs. Ada
Green from Sheridan were last
Monday afternoon callers at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Bud Calla-
han.
A Monday morning caller at the
Bud Callahan home was Gordon
Atkinson. Afternoon callers were
Mr. and Mrs. Joe Casby.
Mr. and Mrs. Chester Hall spent
a week helping with work at the
Newell house in Champoeg.
HOPEWELL
Mrs. Marvel Brown of Warren
was a guest of Mr. and Mrs. N. O.
Pearse for a week. She and Mrs.
Pearse called on Mrs. Margaret
Janzen, Mrs. Esther Polvi, Mrs.
Beulah Reed, Mrs. Inga Deedon
and Mrs. Rebecca McKinley dur-
ing her stay. The Pearses took her
to Sublimity to the home of her
daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde
Cave and family on Thursday, and
her son Dean Brown and family,
who are here on furlough from their
work in education in the Azores
Island, took her home to Warren
where she lives with another
daughter, Mr. and Mrs. James
Bennett and family. The Brown
family gathered on July 31 to
celebrate Mrs. Brown's birthday.
Mr. and Mrs. N. O. Pearse were
guests of Mr. and Mrs. Robert
Pearse of West Linn on Thursday
and the Robert Pearses came to
Hopewell on Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Bob Drawdy and
daughters Corinne and Nancy of
Fayetteville, Georgia, were guests
of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Carl
Drawdy for the week of July 19.
Bob is a pilot for Eastern Airlines
and his wife Kitty is a stewardess.
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Heagle of
Gresham were Sunday guests of
Mrs. Margaret Janzen and Mrs.
George Kirkwood and sons of
Hillsboro were Friday guests.
Sunday callers at the Esther
Poivi home were Mr. and Mrs.
Verner Setala of Gresham, Mr. and
Mrs. Hap Powell of Salem and Mr.
and Mrs. Denzil Wilson. All had
attended the pancake breakfast at
Amity, and high school reunions in
the afternoon.

Church News
Rev. Charles Ludwig, Mrs. Earl
Compton and Mrs. John Hack-
worth attended the Annual Confer-
ence of the Evangelical Church of
North America at Jennings Lodge
this week, and on Sunday, July 31,
will give a report of the proceed-
ings.
The Youth activity for this week
centered around devotions at the
Unionvale Church Wednesday
evening at 6:30 pm and swimming
at the Newberg pool afterwards
and refreshments.
Bible study and prayer was held
at the home of Mrs. Beulah Reed
with John Kotka leading.
SON OF DAYTON COUPLE ENDS
BASIC AF TRAINING
Airman C. William Albee, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Ran E. Allbee of Rt.
1, Dayton, has been assigned to
Presidio of Monterey, Calif., after
completing Air Force basic train-
ing. He will now receive specialized
training in the language field.
The airman is a 1973 graduate of
Monrovia, Calif., High School and
attended Citrus College, Azusa,
Calif.

Church News
The Waldo Maker, Ted J,c, nnings
and Merle Campbell families
camped at Gladstone during the
week of Camp meeting July 15-23.
Others attended nearly every day.
Mr. and Mrs. Mickey Campbell,
Robert, Brenda and Marcia from
Paid Cedro, Calif., spent the week-
end of July 16, with his parents at
Gladstone and the young people
stayed for the entire week, as their
parents returned home on Monday,
July 18. Their grandparents, Mr.
and Mrs. Merle Campbell, will take
them back to California this week.
On July 30, the Glen Singers will
give a program at the Hopew¢ll
Church during the morning service
at 11 am. They are a mixed quart-
ette from Cedar Creek, Portland
and Gladstone.
A potluck dinner will be hel
following the church service for ff/e
singers and church members and
friends.
