Mary Budke In ational Tourney Mary Budke, Dayton's famous young golfer, is defending her national U.S. Women's Amateur Golf Championship at the 73rd annual tournament at Montclair, N.J this week. She won the na- tional championship there last year. Monday she was one of 64 qual- ifying for the tournament out of a field of 144. Tuesday she had a strong round and defeated a golfer from Con- necticut, 6 and 5. She is playing in her third na- tional tournament. Mary is a graduate of Dayton High School Steve Purcer will be recreation director and Mrs. Harry Sherman, pianist. Mrs. Fred Bienz, chair- man of the Bible School, will also do Creative Dramatics. There will be a Program Review Friday night at 7:30 p.m Aug. 24. MRS. ETHEL HADLEY WINS AWARD FOR PUBLICITY WORK Mrs. Ethel B. Hadley was re- cently honored with a gift and an award for her publicity work for the Past Presidents Club of the Women's Relief Corps, Custer No. 5. The award was presented by the Deputy State Press Pub- licity Chairman for Oregon Re- lief Corps. COMING EVENTS The Dayton School Board will hold a special meeting Monday, August 27, 8 p.m. at the Dayton Elementary School Library. : The Lafayette City Council will hold its regular meeting next Monday evening, Aug. 20, 7:30 p.m. in the City Hall. dinner in Mrs. Will Ditto's love- ly yard. The lesson was on "Terrari- ums" and was discussed. Mrs. Helrna Garrett read an article on how to make them. Several mem- bers told about their 'summer vacations. Mrs. Anna Woodward won the door prize. The next -meeting will be at the home of Mrs. Mar- iam ][rake. The board approved teaching contracts with Mrs. Lorie Sharer for the 4th grade and Mrs. Vir- ginia Upton for the 2rid grade. Also approved was a contract with Mr. Jerry Larkin as Diversi- fied Occupations Coordinator in conjunction with Amity School District. The Directors approved a con- tract for health services with amhi11 County Health Dept. Mr. Dummer reported the Sum- mer Migrant School had closed August 3rd.
