The evening services of the
Hopewell and Unionvale Com-
munity Churches will be held at
the Unionvale Church each Sun-
day evening at 7:30 p.rn~ The Bi-
ble Study for the churches will
be held at the Parsonage in Un-
ionvale on Thursday evening,
Aug. 16 and at the home of Mr.
and Mrs. Dan Dixon Aug. 23 at
7:30. Everyone is cordially invit-
ed to these services.
Saturday evening, Aug. 11, a
Salmon Bake dinner was served
to about 500 members and friends
of Men of Vision of the World
Gospel Mission at Jennings Lodge
with several missionary families
who are on furlough presented.
The "Challengers" quartette of
Portland furnished music for the
occasion. Those who attended
from Hopewell and Unionvale
Churches were Rev. Charles Lud-
wig, Mark Ludwig, Mark Bauer,
Mr. and Mrs. Dan Dixon, Mr. and
Mrs. N. O. Pearse, John Kotka,
Mrs. Veta Stephens, Mrs. Lena
Olke and Mrs. Claudene Schuck.

Beginning Sept. 2, the Hope-
well Community Church Sunday
School will convene at 9 a.m. and
morning service will be held at
10 a.m with Rev. Charles Lud-
wig as pastor. The Unionvale
Community Church services will
be held at 10 a.m. for Sunday
School and 11 a.m. for morning
service. Everyone is cordially in-
vited to attend the church of
their choice.
Mrs. Beulah Reed attended the
Reed family reunion at the Dallas
Park Sunday, Aug. 12. Mr. and
Mrs. Gus Reed of Portland took
her to the picnic. Her son, Steph-
en Reed of Cheyenne, Wyoming,
arrived Monday, Aug. 13 for a
visit with her and other relatives
for a week.
Mr. and Mrs. N. O. Pearse were
Sunday guests of Mrs. Veta Steph-
ens and they called on Rev. and
Mrs. Harry Ryan of Pioneer Vil-
lage, West Salem during the aft-
ernoon. Rev. Ryan was pastor of
the Hopeweli Church some years
ago.
THURSDAY, AUGUST 16, 1973
Kent Currie; son of Mr. and
Mrs. Robert Currie of Yamhill,
who has finished his basic naval
training at San Diego, is home on
furlough. He called on his grand-
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Dee-
don and Mr. and Mrs. Neff Currie
on Saturday. He will be stationed
at the Great Lakes Naval Train-
ing Station and plans study in
' nuclear electronics.
Mr. and Mrs. Nell Currie were
Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs.
Robert Currie and sons Kent and
Paul at their new home in Yam-
hill. Marvin Currie of McMinn-
ville was also a guest of his par-
ents.
Mr. and Mrs. John Geisler
spent two days at Pacific City this
past week, but report no success.
They were Sunday guests of Mr.
and Mrs. Ralph Jaenicke of Port-
land and experienced the severe
thunderstorm and rain that eve-
ning. They were guests of Mr.
and Mrs. Leonard Stohr of North
Plains for several days this week.
Mrs. Ernst Neiderer and daugh-
ters Mary Ann and Heidi of Ap-
penzell, Switzerland, were Wed-

Frank T. Murphey
Services for Frank Thomas
Murphey, 70, Dayton, were held
Friday, August 10 at the Chapel
of Macy & Son with the Rev. Hen-
nesday guests of Mr. and Mrs.
John Geisler and called on Mr.
and Mrs. Peter DeHaan and fam-
ily, and they returned to their
home this weekend. The Neider-
ers owned the DeHaan 'dairy
farm until January, 1973.
Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Kotka of
Salem w e r e Sunday evening
guests of Mrs. Margaret Janzen,
and Elmer visited his brothers,
John and William Kotka during
the evening.
Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs.
F. L. Withee were Mr. and Mrs.
Todd Forrest and family of The
Dalles and Mr. and Mrs. Howard
Magness of Sherwood and Mr.
and Mrs. Wayne Withee of Day-
ton to celebrate Mrs. Fred Wi-
thee Sr.'s. birthday.

Mr. Murphey died Aug. 8 at
his Dayton home.
He was born Jan. 19, 1894, at
Parkesburg, Pennsylvania, the
son of Walter A. and Sarah Tho-
mas Murphey. He graduated from
State College in Pennsylvania in
1914. He worked as a forester in
several states before retiring in
Pennsylvania in 1950. As a hob-
by he grew some of the fL-st
Christmas trees in the nation. In
1950 he moved to New Smyrna
Beach, Florida, where he resided
until 1970 when he moved to Day-
ton. On May 13, 1970 he was mar-
ried to Helen E. Scoggan.
Mr. Murphey was a member of
the O.E.S. Electa Chapter 29, a
member of Jacob Mayer Lodge
AF&AM 108 in Dayton and also
a member of the Veterans of For-
eign Wars.
Survivors include his wife, Hel-
en; sons: Victor V. Scoggan, Day-
ton and Byron K. Scoggan, Sacra-
mento, Calif.; a daughter, Mrs.
Nathelle R. Brown, Salem; broth-
