Volunteer Drivers Needed For County Seniors Volunteer drivers are needed to drive their own cars taking Senior Citizens to shop, to the doctors, etc., in Yamhill County. Some trips to Salem and Portland requested. Yamhill County Council on Ag- ing is sponsoring this program and will re-imburse drivers fifteen cents a mile for service. This controversial issue will be discussed by Sen. Tony Meeker; t Robert Cannon, well-known crim- inal attorney; Dr. Larry Warner, McMinnville physician; and Dr. Linda Pasztor, geneticist from Crippled Children's Division in portland. This meeting is open to the public and those attending are invited to bring their questions. Engineers for a permit to construct a pile-supported concrete pier on the Yamhill River near Dayton. The pier will accommodate a movable crane so that barges can be off-loaded from the pier rather than by a barge-mounted crane, thereby relieving congestion in the river at the unloading point. The pier will require driving four single timber piles and placing pre-cast concrete superstructure on top. Interested parties are requested to submit in writing any comments or objections they may have to the proposed work. Such comments should be mailed to reach the Portland District, Corps of Engin- eers by Sept. 15. The office is located in Portland, mailing ad- dress, P.O. Box 2946, Portland, Oregon 97208. Hopewell 4-Hers Win Ribbons At Oregon State Fair Competition Seven 4-Hers from the HopeweU 4-H Clubs competed in the Oregon State Fair in Salem. The club, chaperoned by Mrs. Lloyd Rae, Mrs. Ben Sims, and Mrs. Don Rae, went to The Pizza Castle for a pizza party to complete the year. Instrumental Music Program Set For Schools The instrumental music program for the Dayton public schools has begun this year under a new director, Mr. Terry Ostergaard. He has been busy this week testing the Sth grade and introducing the in- struments that will be used in the schools. Ostergaard comes to Dayton from Nebraska with five years of  instrumental teaching experience and is looking forward to a great year at Dayton. Monday, Sept. 11 at 4 pm or 8 pm at the High School band room, Ostergaard will have a get-ac- quainted meeting. Parents of in- terested beginning students are in- vited to attend and learn about instrumental music in your school. Fairview Mr. and Mrs. Sam Kotka and family and Mr. and Mrs. Jim Foster of Portland were weekend guests of John Kotka.
