Jansen, are attending Salem Acad-
emy this year.
The Hopewell School opened for
regular classes on Sept. S. Mrs.
Heidi Hodgen is the new teacher of
the Sth and 6th grades, and Mrs.
Carol Bank for the 3rd and 4th is
also new. The first grade teacher is
Mrs. Cindy Greenow and 2nd
grade teacher is Mrs. Patsy Bixler,
who were teachers here last year.
Dabble Kuehn of Amity is the
teacher's aide.
Mr. and Mrs. Loren Swenwold of
West Salem called on Mr. and Mrs.
N. O. Pearse last Sunday.
Guests during the week of Mrs.
Margaret Jansen were Mr. and
Mrs. George Kirkwood and sons of
Hil[sboro, and Mr. and Mrs. Elmer
Kotka of Salem, and Mr. and Mrs.
Henry Heagle of Gresham. Susan
Spillman of Bellingham, Wash.,
was a guest of her grandmother for
several days this week.
Mr. and Mrs. Kirby Johnson of
Salem called on Mrs. Esther Polvi
on Saturday afternoon, on their
way home from a camper trip to
Anchorage, Alaska.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Jansen and
family enjoyed a trip to the Cas-
cades near Detroit on Saturday.

Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Coffey
enjoyed a trip in their motor home
to visit relatives in Chehalis,
Wash., this weekend.
Mr. and Mrs. Elton Ingram and
Mr. and Mrs. Harold Owen en-
joyed a huckleberry picking trip to
Mt. Adams area near White Sal-
mon, Wash., recently.
Mr. and Mrs. Victor Beier of
Salem were weekend visitors at the
home of Mrs. Rebecca McKinley.
On Sunday, they took Mrs. Mc-
Kinley to visit her sister, Mr. and
Mrs. James Miles of Salem, while
they went to the Fair.
Mrs. Lou Ann Caudel moved to
Pleasantdale and her children en-
rolled in the Dayton School Tues-
day.
Mr. and Mrs. Harold Stowell and
family moved to the Robert Jansen
farm temporarily, until Mr. Stowell
finds employment.
Mr. and Mrs. Dave Eastman and
family of Portland were weekend
guests of the Leland Harmon fam-
ily for Labor Day weekend.
The Clair Stephens Clan spent
the Labor Day weekend at the
beach camping near Florence.
Frances Stephens, teacher at Hood
View Jr. Academy went as did the
Chuck Keightley family, Sharon
and Ran Esperson and the Robert
Stephens.

Church News
Sept. 2 was a high day at Hope-
well Church. Our pastor, Ray Mit-
chell gave his first sermon and was
welcomed by a fellowship pot luck
dinner in Maude Williamson Park.
Associated M.V. Meeting was at
4 pro, song service and 4:30 pro-
gram by the Lloyd Herr family,
former pastor of McMinnville, who
have spent the last three years in
Hawaii pastoring the Aiea Church
on the island of Oahu. Many
musical numbers were enjoyed.
Sabbath School highlights on
Sept. 2 were special music by Jeff
Pearles. Evangelism by Dallas
Bartell, Mission Emphasis given by
Jean Pietrok. Many visitors were
present to enjoy both Sabbath
School and church.
Mrs. Waldo Maker has returned
from her trip by air to Arizona and
California. Dorcas meeting will
resume all day on Wednesday.

Actdemy this new term which
began Aug. 28, are Brad and Marc
Leigh, Jean and Dallena Bartell.

for fall and winter activities will be
