NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING
Notice is hereby given that the
Planning Commission and the City
Council of the City of Dayton will
hold a public hearing on Monday,
September 12, 1977, beginning at
7:30 pm in the City Hall to consider
the adoption of an interim zoning
ordinance.
Persons are hereby invited to
attend the public hearing to ob-
serve the proceedings and to re-
gister any statements in person, by
attorney, or mall to assist the Plan-
ning Commission and City Council
in making a decision. For addition-
al Information, please contact the
City Hall, Dayton, Oregon (864-
2221 ).

Hopewell
Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Coffey en-
joyed Labor Day weekend in their
mobile home, returning Sunday
evening.
The Clair Stephens family went
camping to the beach for the Labor
Day weekend. Sharon and Run Es-
person were home from Loma
Linda, Calif., Frances from Gresh-
am, Carol and Chuck Keightley,
Joyce and Janet went also.
Recent guests of Mrs. Margaret
Janzen were Mr. and Mrs. Walter
Spillman of Pasco, Wash., and
Susan Spillman of Bellingham,
Wash., on Thursday, returning
home Friday. Little Cathy Reed,
granddaughter of the Spillmans,
accompanied them. Sunday guests
were Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Kotka,
Mrs. Julia Hayes and Mrs. Brian
Humphreys, Karen and Heather of
Salem.
James Rateau visited his sister,
Mrs. Mary Schemmel of Seattle for
several days this past week. He
accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Robert
Janzen and sons to Seattle, and
they went on to Victoria, B.C. for
sightseeing and fishing. Philip
caught two nice salmon. They also
visited Mr. and Mrs. Jake Peters of
Birch Bay and other friends, re-
turning Saturday evening.

Hopewell 4H News
Members of the Platters 4H Club
and the Clovers 4H Club who ex-
hibited at the State Fair and the
ribbons they received were as
follows: Susie Rae: blue ribbon on
her plant and on her cake, blue on
vegetable judging, Champion on
cut flowers, red on her vegetables,
participating ribbon on Style Re-
vue. Sherry Rae: blue on knitting
exhibit, blue on luncheon, red on
baking muffins. Donna Rae: blue
on knitting judging. June Donner,
red ribbon on cake; Kelly Sims,
participation ribbon on style revue.
Hopewell SDA Pathfinder Club
Youngsters of the Hopewell SDA
Pathfinder Club are completing
plans for the Camporee September
9-11 at Paulina Creek, near Paulina
Lake, south of Bend, Ore. Jean and
Dalena Bartell will be attending.
The requirements include such
items as satisfactory standards at
home, school, church and at club
meetings. At the Camporee, local
club members will sharpen their
skills in all phases of camping, and
hiking, and learn new outdoor
skills. They will participate in wor-
ship services at the Camporee. Age
of club members is from 10 to 15
years.

Hopewell School opened Tues-
day, Sept. 6.
First graders enrolled are: Jean
Bradley, Don Bradley, Peter De-
Haan, Jr., Randy Goddard, Joey
Harmon, Erin Kirby, Daniel Mich-
ael, Paul Rahmig, Jason Reynolds,
Aimee Swartz.
Second graders enrolled are:
Carrie Dollar, Gregg Bieze, Tracy
Caudell, Suzanne Eaves, Dawn
Ferguson, Tricia Gibbon, Donny
Goodwin, Tim Harmon, Gary Kir-
by, Margie Shilhanek, Missy Shirk,

Speaker at the 11 am Church
service was Gary See of Sheridan.
The McMinnville Associated
Missionary Volunteer program at
the McMinnville Church was a film
story of the life of Merrill Womach.
A half hour of song service and
special music by Ted Jennings on
his saxophone precede the film.
Wednesday, Sept. 7, the Dorcas
Circle will resume regular meeting
from 10 am to 3 pro, making
comforts and mending clothing for
relief.
The School Board meeting will
be held Sept. 12 at McMinnville
School.

Church News
Hopewell Missionary Society will
meet at the home of Mrs. Nels
Sipola Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 13
at 1:30 pm, with Mrs. Beulah Reed
as leader. All ladies of the com-
munity welcome.
A Fellowship Hour was enjoyed
by the Hopewell Church members
and friends at 11 am Sunday, Sept.
5. The evening services this month
will be held at Unionvale Church,
with the Youth Fellowship at 6 pm
and worship at 7 pmf
Rev. Charles Ludwig attended
the Salem Area Ministers Work-
shop at the Fruitland Evangelical
Church on Tuesday, Sept. 6.
The Unionvale Council of Church
officers will be held following the
evening church service, Sept. 11 at
8 pm. All officers are urged to be
present to make plans for the fall;
and winter months.
Monday evening, Sept. 12 at
7:30 Unionvale and Hopewell Sun-
day School officers and teachers
will meet at the Hopewell Clmech.
