500 YAMHILL COUNTY RESIDENTS OPPOSE"PEOPLE'S UTILITY DISTRICT'.'
Recently over 500 residents of Yamhill County
from all walks of life joined a grassroots citizens
committee. They signed up to oppose forming a
new government body called a people's utility
district. They're opposed because a people's
utility district would have the power to condemn
and take over private property, to tax private
property and to issue bonds. That's too much
power to hand over to a new government body.
They're also opposed because under Oregon
statute {ORS 261) a PUD would be run by five
political directors who would not be required
to have any experience, could set their own sal-
aries...and hand us the bill!
