To the Editor:
The Oregon Wildlife Federation
(a statewide organization of sports-
men's clubs and individuals) is en-
deavoring to help the Oregon De-
partment of Fish and Wildlife and
the Oregon State Police curb the
rising incidence of poaching in the
state.
Recently, Ken Durbin, Informa-
tion Officer of the Oregon Depart-
ment of Fish and Wildlife, noted
that studies made in some areas
indicate poachers take more game
than legal, licensed hunters. This
happens because game officers
can't be everywhere at once, and
too many citizens shrink from re-
porting violations.
The Oregon Wildlife Federation
is urging hunters to shoulder a
greater responsibility in protecting
game animals from poachers. If
illegal hunting activity is observed,
never attempt a citizen's arrest.
Instead, take note of such details
as: what kind of vehicle was in-
volved, license number, how many
poachers, physical descriptions --
hair color, did they have beards,
height, weight, any distinguishing
marks, what clothing was worn --
etc. Call your nearest State Police
Officer with this information.
We would ask that anyone call-
nullification of your rights to land
under the U.S. Constitution. It is an
organized bureaucracy that won't
die or go away easily. None do.
Few of us realized in 1973 how
far reaching Senate Bill 100 creat
ing the LCDC was. Are you aware
the LCDC can enter your home
without a warrant? Can nullify
provisions in your will as to in-
heritance of land? Deny you the
highest profitability on your real
estate investment? Destroy your
retirement made 5-50 years ago?
Has no provisions for compensation
and no known intentions of facing
the issue if the new zoning reduced
the value of your land even though
Senate Bill 100 called for a com-
pensatory committee. This corn-
mittee after sevm years does not
function, yet the county planners
are presenting detailed maps down
"o and including individual tracts.
There are only two ways to acquire
land, buy it or steal it, LCDC
clearly has the latter in mind.
I suggest that throughout the
state that those opposed to LCDC
get organized and communicate
with each other. In unity there is
strength that Salem at all levels will
have to listen to or start reading the
help wanted ads.
