Everyone likes ex- tension! In September, the Moonlighters met in Maud Williamson Park. The first meeting was to get ac- quainted and make plans for the year. On September 12, they spon- sored a Bicycle Roadeo. Parents, friends and relatives watched over 20 young people compete in the barrel race, the slow race, the tricycle race and the skills con- test. Officials were Sharyl Mich- ael, Lois Dumler, David, Mac and Eleanor Maguren. Mrs. Nine Ow- ens third and fourth grade room had the most participants and won the trophy for the Hopewell School. The ribbons and awards and refreshments were donated in memory of Philip Brown, who was killed recently in a bicycle- pickup accident in Salem. The Bicycle Institute recom- mends these 8 rules of the road: 1. Obey all traffic regulations, stop signs, one way streets, traffic signals, etc. 2. Keep right ride with traf- fic, not against it Ride single file and in a straight line. 3. For night riding, be sure to have a white light in the front, and a state approved reflector in back. Be sure to have reflector- ized pedals. 4. Slow down at all intersec- tions Look both ways and pro- ceed with caution. 5. Always give pedestrians the right of way. 6 Watch out for ~ars pulling into traffic. 7. Don't carry passengers or packages that interfere with vi- sion or control. 8. Always use proper hand sig- nals for turning or stopping. The Hopewell Home Extension Unit will meet at the home of Mrs. Nels Sipola on Tuesday, Oct. 15 at 10:30 am for the project lesson on "Modern Patchwork" with Mrs. Rudolph Fischer and Mrs. N. 0 Pearse as leaders An "Eye-Opener" on Consumer Pro- tection hleps will be a feature of each session throughout the ,year. Mr. and Mrs. J H Wales of San Fernando, Cal., were guests of Mrs Mary Elliott and family, for several days this past week. Mr and Mrs Garvin Baker went to Kelso, Wash., on Sunday to be with their daughter, Mrs. Bill Sanders, who was scheduled for surgery on Monday, Sept. 30. They will care for her family dur- ing her stay in the hospital. Mr and Mrs. Larry Hagle of San Jose, Calif., were guests of their son, Mr and Mrs. Larry Ha. gle and family for ten days, and returned to their home Sept. 30. Mr and Mrs. Kirby Johnson of Salem were Sunday afternoon guests of Mrs Esther Polvi. Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Nell Currie were Mr and Mrs Glen Robinson of Salem, Mr and Mrs. Robert Currie and Paul of Yamhill and Kent Currie, who is having a two weeks furlough from the Army in San Francisco, Cal., and will be stationed in Great Falls, Idaho, after his furlough. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Carrie and family of Yamhill called on Mrs Henry Deedon Sunday afternoon.
