City Recorder, Janlce Church, con.
cerning additional funds for the
city's police department following
defeat of a tax levy for the de-
partment recently].
Dear Ms. Church:
Enclosed please find our check in
the amount of $12.00. While our
water account is only $10.00, we
have decided to voluntarily pay an
assessment of $2.00 per month in
addition to our monthly water bill
for payment into the Police De-
partment account until such time as
the needed funds to maintain police
protection have been found.
While this voluntary assessment
on our part is not going to solve the
problem of paying a man for eight
aours when he is actually working
about double those hours, it is our
hope that other citizens of Dayton
may follow our lead and do like-
wise. From the figures indicated at
the City Council Meeting of Octo-
ber 6th, it would appear that, if
each household in the City of
Dayton paid this amount into the
Police Department account, it
would relieve the financial emer-
gency at least until the end of the
current fiscal year or until such
time as revenue sharing funds may
become available. We feel that this
is a small enough amount to pay
each month for a vitally needed
protection, and are sending a copy
of this letter to the local newspaper
with the hope that the rest of our

II, a beautiful book of photographs of
Oregon; a set of two Ge :ber Ch.ff s Knives;

But the hottest story is the way man-
