It also is designed to help spread out such assisted housing over a larger geographical area in the tri-county area. In other business the Council approved parking restrictions in three locations. No parking stripes will be placed on corners at Bill's .Market and the Lafayette restau- rant. Eliminating the parking space will prevent motorists from backing out onto Highway 99W as they leave. A sign prohibiting parking 20 feet from the corner will also be placed adjacent the former Lafay- ette Game Room. The Council authorized Public Works Superintendent .Jack Whitehead to proceed with sub- mittal of final applications for fed- THURSDAY, OCTOBER eral funds to build a basketball court on The Commons. Estimated cost will be $7,000 with the city providing half the amount in labor and money. Mayor Dolly Gamel, at the re- quest of the Newberg Jaycettes, proclaimed Oct. 11-18 as Freedom Week in memory of the hostages held in lran. An ordinance setting out pen- alties for outside use of water during water shortages was also discussed by the council and will be studied for action at a later date. Curt Hines from T. R. Bradley Corp. spoke to the council about the possibility of offering cable TV to the citizens of the community. No aclion was taken until further studies can be made. The Council set Oct. 22 for a public hearing on amendments to the city's land use ordinance, per- raining to subdivisions and minor partitionings. This will be a joint hearing of the Council and the city planning commission.
