PAGE 4 -- THE DAYTON TRIBUNE, DAYTON, OREGON -- THURSDAY, OCTOBER 11, 1973 The Hopewell Home Extension Unit will meet Tuesday, Oct. 16, at 10:30 a.m. at the home of Mrs. N. O. Pearse. Mrs. Doris Miller and Mrs. Margaret Nemeyer will present the lesson "Chopstick Cookery" in the morning,with potluck dinner at noon. Mrs. Lloyd Rae, Chairman, will have charge of the business meeting in the afternoon. Members are asked to bring plants, bulbs, etc for a plant sale for the Unit treasury. All ladies of the community are invited to attend. Oct. 7 through 13 is 4H week, so the Hopewell Knitting Club was honored at the Hopewell School. Each member received her special pin. Officers are: Pres- ident, Sherry Rae; Secretary, Jeannette De Haan; Treasurer, Theresa Garcia. Mrs. H. L. Ma- guren is leader of the group and Mrs. Don Rae is assistant leader. The Hopewell SDA Church elected officers this past week. The Spring Valley Garden Club will hold its annual Chrysanthe- mum Show at the Spring Valley Community Hall on Saturday, Oct. 13, 2-6 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 14, 1-5 p.m. Coffee, tea, home made cookies will be served. The Basement Country Store will display plants, vegetables, baked goods, dried materials, and many novel items for gifts and the home. Signs will be posted and every- one is cordially invited to attend. The H o p e w e 11 Community Church Home Bible Study will be held Thursday evening, Oct. 11, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Nels Sipola with Rev. Charles Ludwig in charge. Everyone is cordially invited to attend. Rev. and Mrs. Walter Rowley of Silverton are guests of Mrs. Beulah Reed this week, and both are employed on the new house of Robert Janzen. Among those who attended the wedding of James Sargeant, son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Sargeant and Bonita Sample, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Sample of Sa- lem at the Salem SDA Church on Sunday afternoon, Oct. 7 at 4 p.m. were Mr. and Mrs. Russell Sar- geant and family, Mrs. Evelyn Beusekamp, Mrs. Merle Camp- bell, Mr. and Mrs. Lowell Camp- bell, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Jan- zen and family, Mr. and Mrs. WaL do Maker and Mr. Robert Magee. Mrs. Lena Olke of McMinnville was an overnight guest of Mr. and Mrs. N. O. Pearse on Wed- nesday, Oct: 3, and in the after- noon, she and Mrs. Pearse and Mrs. Walter Irwin were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Deedon. irvl Mrs. Joe Columbus of Anchor- age, Alaska, returned to her home Thursday, Oct. 4, after a week's visit with her mother, Mrs. Hel- mar Torppa and son, and sister, Mr. ,and Mrs. Russell Sargeant and family. Mrs. Tor~pa is im- proving in health and able tO be up and about the house. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Keight- ley and family have purchased the Lawrence Spruell house and have moved in. Mrs. Sylvia Taskinen and son Richard were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Taskinen and family of Portland on Sunday. Mr. Ben Tas- kinen is improving in health suf- ficiently to return to part time work. Mrs. Grace Duren was a Sun- day guest of Mrs. Lillian Risser. Mrs. Effie Branson of Spring- field, North Ridge, Calif visited her niece, Mrs. Veta Stephens for several days last week. Mr. and Mrs. Nels Kotka, and Mrs. Marie Wagner of Portland and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Kotka of Scappoose were Sunday guests of John and WiRiam Kotka. Saturday evening, Oct. 6, from a two week trip to Helsinki, Fin- land to attend the funeral of her mother, who pgssed away very suddenly recently. Mr. and Mrs. John Magness have been guests of Virginia Mag- ness for a week. Sunday they were guests of Mr. and Mrs. How- ard M~gness Of Sherwood and on the way home, called on Ber- tha Magness at the Oak Glen Nursing home in McMinnville, finding her able to walk with a walker. Mr. and Mrs. John Mag- ness went to Newport to visit oth- er relatives Tuesday, Oct. 9. Six students, two girls and four boys, of the Western Mennonite School, were guests of Mr. and Mrs. T. F. Gingerich and family from Tuesday till Sunday. The girls assisted Mrs. Gingerich with house cleaning, and the boys helped on the farm. The School was closed during the week while the nine teachers attended the Church School Conference in Laurelville, Pennsylvania. Allen Shirk of Hopewell was among the teachers attending. The stu- dents are assigned to the various homes of the members of the Western Mennonite Church, and are to work two 8-hour days an- nuaily, as a fund-raising project. This year and last year, the mon- ey was used to buy a new school bus. Unionvale Saturday evening, Oct. 13, the Mid-Willamette Valley area Evan- gelical Churches will gather at the Unionvale Community Church Gym, for a Mexican Fellowsli~" dinner, in charge of Rev. Lester Moore of Jennings Ledge, Ken- neth Stroman, director of the En- senada, Mexico, orphanage, will show pictures of the orphanage and tell of the work there. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Stein- grube were guests of Mrs. Gene Stephens and family of Corvallis on Oct. 6, to celebrate Mrs. Stein- grube's birthdays. On Sunday they were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Cordell Tittle and family of Lake Oswego.
