By ORVAL COFFE (Continued from Last Week) Mrs. Rose Martin spent the week at Canby with her daugh- ter, Mr. and Mrs. Dean Totem and their five sons. Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Tracy were visited for a couple of days by Mr. and ~Mrs. Irsel Chapman of Springfield. Thursday Mr. and Mrs. Leon- ard Higgins were surprised 'by a visit from Mr. and Mrs. James E. Reardon from Pismo Beach, Calif who spent four days with them. Saturday Mr. and Mrs. Harry Coulson from Carlton and Mr. and Mrs. James K~nslow and their three children from Dayton called. -Mr. and Mrs. John Lewis and family and accompanied by ~ Ir. and-Mrs. Rod Coller from Am- ity drove over to the beach at Pacific City. At 6:25 p.m. Monday evening Mr. and Mrs. Rex Anderson of McMinnville became the parents of Jeff Lewis Anderson weighing 9 lbs oz. He was 20 inches long and joins a brother and two sisters. Maternal grandparents are FAward and Elsie. Waiters; paternal are Leonard and Pearl Anderson, both from Prineville. The great grandmother is Mrs. August Anderson in Spokane, Wash. Anderson is the nephew of Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Coffey. Sunday Rex Anderson and his brother, Gene Anderson, from Hilisboro got a Spike Elk in East- ern Oregon. Mrs. Ollie Johnson is being vis- ited by her grandson, Danny Ham]in. ~Ir. and Mrs. Everett Wise and Neff were visited Sunday by Mr. and Mrs. Earl Treber fror0 Port- land. Nell won a prize for the most unusual costume at the Bap- tist Church Halloween party. He dressed as Clyde of "Bonnie and Clyde" fame from the 30's. Saturday Mr. and Mrs. Lee I Swaggart were visited by her aunt, Mrs. Vanna Bryan from Olympia, Wash, Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Maunu and Lori had Tuesday overnight guests, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Makai from Kettle River, ~Ilnn. Wed- nesday they drove to Sweet Home to visit his brother, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Makai. J. E. Niccolis accompanied-by his son-in-law, Harold Morgan, Steve Edwards of Dayton and !Jim Schultz, a teacher from Ger- vais, went elk hunting with no success in theElkton area and ran into snow. Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Blouin received a phone call from their i son, Donald Blouin in San Jose, Calif. He had been ill. Mrs. Lloyd Langley was luncheon guest of her aunt on Monday. Mr. and Mrs. L. H. Plugge's daughter, Norma Silveria of Ben- ecia, Calif arrived here Monday morning for a complete rest. A former resident of Lafayette Mrs. Jack Arb of Portland visited old friends and relatives here Sunday. She called on Mr. and Mrs. Vern Presser, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Rodgers and Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Vanlandingham. Wednesday Mr. *and ~Irs. Vern Presser drove up on the North Santiam River with their son, Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Presser to see his new summer home right on the bank of the river. Mr. and Mrs. Percy Miller's grandson, Mr. and Mrs. Larry I)e- Pue and Kelly and .Larry Jr. of Oroville, Calif spent a week with them. Mr. and Mrs. Dane Clemens were visited by their son, Mr. and tMrs. Royce Clemens and Jeffery from Seattle, Wash over the weekend. This Week Mrs. Gilbert Trever's niece, Ar- dis Trever of Mountain, Wisc who was badly cut when she went thru the windshield of the car, is recovering now from her operation but has two more sche- duled in the future. They will live in Seattle, Wash. According to the State Police investigation, Margaret M a r y Norris, 7th St. Extension, and l~osie Jane Coburn, Monroe ~t, collided 9:45 Nov. 3. Mrs. Coburn was driving out of the driveway when she was struck by Mrs. Norris. ~Vfrs. Coburn was issued a citation. Ralph Sartaln is in the New- berg Convalescent home. He is walking now with help and can have visitors. Eveertt Pruitt was stricken with a heart attack Sunday and is in Physicians & Surgeons in McMirmville. MAN CHARGED WITH ARSON IN LAFAYETTE TRAILER FIRE A former Lafayette man was charged with arson Sunday after being arrested in Waltsburg, Wash after a lengthy investiga- tion by local state police and the state arson squad. Robert Ray Baatz, 34, is charged in connection with a house trailer fire in Lafayette about one year ago. He is being held in the county jail in lieu of $5000 ball. Dayton Residents Named To Committee LINFIELD CODLEGE, Mc- Minnville --- Lee Vasquez and Mr. and Mrs. Juan Galaviz, all of Dayton, are merr~bers of two new committees formed for the Upward Bound program at Lin- field Co]lege. Vasquez is a member of the community resource committee, and Mr. and Mrs. Galaviz are members of the parent advisory~ committee. Upward Bound is a pre-college preparatory program designed to generate the skills and motiva- tions necessary for success in ed- ucation beyond high school among young people from low-income backgrounds and inadequate sec- ondary school preparation. Linfield started this program with 30 students last summer. The community involvement committee has various functions in involving the community more with the Upward Bound Program and in examining solutions to problems confronting the students and their families. The parent advisory committee may assist in developing of the program and offer various sug- gestions. The members are also to assist in expanding of the in- fluence of Upward Bound into other community functions and institutes. Rain can make driving more risky than snow. The changes that occur during snow are ap- parent to most drivers, but the hazards of rain, such as reduced visibility and traction, are not generally ~:ecognized as danger- ous. RE-COUNT CHANGES RESULT OF LAFAYETTE VOTING A re-count of the ballots cast for city council posts in the Nov. 3 election in Lafayette placed two women on the council for four-year terms. Peggy Wise and Edwina Meit- zen will take office in January. The re-count was held by the local election board Thursday night, Nov. 5 after a canvass of the votes required by law dis- :closed a variance in the tallies. Final results showed Mrs. Wise receiving 105 votes, Mrs. Meit~a 78; C. W. McCracken 77, E. M. Harris 75; Don Jensen 70; How- ard Raymond 65.
