Dayton Residents
Named To Committee
LINFIELD CODLEGE, Mc-
Minnville --- Lee Vasquez and
Mr. and Mrs. Juan Galaviz, all
of Dayton, are merr~bers of two
new committees formed for the
Upward Bound program at Lin-
field Co]lege.
Vasquez is a member of the
community resource committee,
and Mr. and Mrs. Galaviz are
members of the parent advisory~
committee.
Upward Bound is a pre-college
preparatory program designed to
generate the skills and motiva-
tions necessary for success in ed-
ucation beyond high school among
young people from low-income
backgrounds and inadequate sec-
ondary school preparation.
Linfield started this program
with 30 students last summer.
The community involvement
committee has various functions
in involving the community more
with the Upward Bound Program
and in examining solutions to
problems confronting the students
and their families.
The parent advisory committee
may assist in developing of the
program and offer various sug-
gestions. The members are also
to assist in expanding of the in-
fluence of Upward Bound into
other community functions and
institutes.
Rain can make driving more
risky than snow. The changes
that occur during snow are ap-
parent to most drivers, but the
hazards of rain, such as reduced
visibility and traction, are not
generally ~:ecognized as danger-
ous.
