Hopewell and
Unionvale
Church News
The annual Homecoming service
of the Unionvale Community
Church will be held Sunday, Nov.
26, with Rev. V. A. Ballantyne,
former pastor of the church and
now Superintendent of the North-
west area of the Evangelical
Church of North America, will be
guest speaker at the mornin 8 ser-
vice at 11 am, potluck dinner at
noon, and at 2 pm, Larry Crook,
will present a musical program.
Everyone is cordially invited to
attend these services.
The weekly Prayer Breakfast was
held at the Unionvale Church
Tuesday, Nov. 21. All the women's
meetings of both churches were
cancelled.
Saturday the Junior Youth Group
will meet at the Unionvale Church
and go visit Marcy and Little
Marcy, puppets at the Bible Book
House in Salem at 9:45 am and
leave at I0 am. All young people of
Junior age are invited.

Rev. Allen Backer was guest
speaker at the Hopewell Home-
coming service Sunday, Nov. 19.
Potluck dinner was served at noon
and at 2 pm, two young men from
George Fox College sang accom-
panied by guitar and gave testi-
monies of their Christian life.
There were 79 in Sunday School.
Hopewell
Gary Poivi and children, Kathy,
Carol and Nicholas of Washington,
D.C. and Mr. and Mrs. Ronald
Polvi of Portland were Sunday
guests of Mrs. Esther Polvi. Mrs.
May Polvi was also a guest. The
children are guests of the Ronald
Polvis this week while their father
is in Seattle on business and all will
be Thanksgiving guests of Mrs.
Esther Poivi.
Mrs. Beulah Reed spent
Thanksgiving with her sister, Mr.
and Mrs. Lowell Ingles and family
of Manning.
Mr. and Mrs. N. O. Pearse wer
Thanksgiving day guests of Mr,
and Mrs. Ernie Bhone and family.
Mrs. John Ojua was a Thanks-
giving Day guest of Mr. and Mrs.
Wayne Ojua and family.
There have been numerous elec-
tric service and telephone service
interruptions during this storm.
Dec. 2 a Bazaar sponsored by the
Mothers Club of the Hopewell
School for the benefit of the ac-
tivities of the school, will be held at
the school from 10 am to 6 pm.
Handmade articles, needlework,
craft, baked foods of all kinds and
Christmas decorations will be dis-
played for sale. Everyone is invited
to participate.
THURSDAY, NOVEMBER
The Moonlighters Home Exten-
sion Unit will hold their December
meeting on Monday evening, Dec.
4 at 7 pm at the home of Mrs.
Juanita Temple. It is an open
meeting and a Scandinavian Buffet
will be the main feature of the
evening. All ladies of the com-
munity are invited to attend and
share.
Tuesday evening, the Hopewell
4H groups will be given awards at
the 4H Awards Night for the whole
county at the Fairgrounds in Mc-
Minnville.
James Currie, of Fullerton,
CaliL, son of Mr. and Mrs. Neil
Currie, visited his parents during
this past week.
Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Williams
and Chris attended a birthday and
anniversary reception in honor of
Harold Roswell of Salem, at his
home Saturday evening.

Church News
Pastor Steve Pott of Portland and
Salem was the speaker Nov. 18. His
topic "God's Rx for Sick Hearts".
Ted Jennings sang and played his
saxaphone for church and also
Sabbath School service.
Carol Keightley was acting Sab-
bath School Supt. Christie Johnson
had the mission emphasis. Sabbath
School Improvement Material was
given.

and daughter visited the Roy Mit-
chells over the weekend.
Gilbert Hallsted, 79, long time
resident of Hopewell community
and brother of Laura Carson died
from a heart attack at noon Nov. 15
at his home near Boring, Ore.
Memorial service was held at
Macy's in McMinnville Nov. 20 and
burial was at Hopewell Cemetery.
A dinner for the family was
served after the service at the mul-
tiple-purpose room at Hopewell
SDA Church. The Hallsteds sold
their home at Laurelwood about a
year ago and moved near Boring to
be near their son, Ersel.
On Nov. 13 Alda Nash-Perry
accompanied by Mrs. Clint Em-
merson and Mrs. Jones of Hemet,
Calif., visited friends and relatives
in the Hopewell community, Mrs.
Alda Perry and her parents,
George and Cora Nash lived in
Hopewell years ago.
WEBFOOT
Mrs. Dorothy Ford and Mrs. Er-
cell Griggs returned Sunday from
Aberdeen, Wash., where Dorothy
attended the reunion of a group
who worked together during the
war in a mill. Twenty-one were in
attendance, some coming from as
far away as California. She report-
ed having a wonderful time visit-
ing. The trip home through the
snow and over the ice was some-
thing else.
Mrs. Robert Perez was hostess
for a Primrose House Crystal party
last week.
Mr. and Mrs. O. A. Shephard of
Springbrook were Sunday callers at
the George Doud home.
Mr. and Mrs. Loyde Osburn of
Newberg were luncheon guests
Monday with Mr. and Mrs. George
Doud.
