Funds are available for permanent vegetation cover -- im- provement or establishment, di- Versions, reservoirs, stream pro- tection, animal waste facilities, forest tree plantings or improve- ment. The county received an initial conservation program allocation of $47,500 with the balance scheduled for later, according to Merle Church, Chairperson of the YamhiU County ASC committee. The ACP is designed to save soil, conserve energy and water, im- prove woodlands and eliminate pollution in lakes and streams. Farmers who apply for the program will receive federal financial as- sistance for up to 75% of the cost to help them meet the most critical problems. Church said some conservation or pollution problems involving more than one farm may be solved more effectively under a pook agreement. "This is done by l " ing resources, efforts and finances; thus providing community wide benefits." Pooling agreements en- able farmers to correct the total area or entire problem, he said. The program also contains pro- jects which are specifically de- signed to help small farmers solve conservation problems. This past year $17,500 additional dollars were allocated to Yamhill County to help small farmers solve soil con- servation problems. Some of these were: pollution from animal waste, planting grasses and forest trees, planting permanent grasses in or- chards and vineyards, etc. To be eligible you must be a commercial producer of agricultural commodi- ties.
