Pittock Mansion
The Lafayette Home Extension
Unit met at the home of Connie
Wolf for their annual Ohristmas
Pa~ty on Thursday, Dec. 11. There
were 10 members present and
five guests at the meeting.
A more detailed report was
given about .the Halloween treats
that were given out by Connie
Wolf and her conmdrttee.
January's meeting was dis-
cussed and it was decided to
have a potluck using pioneer re-
cipes and to have everyone who
had pioneer clothes wear them.
Mrs. Nita Terry and Peggy Wise
will be the project leaders. The
meeting will be at the home of
Blanche Stewart.
A card was circulated to be
given to Edith Sohrweid.
Marie Storm led the group in
~inging of Christmas carols and
played her accordion.
An exchange of gifts and pot-
luck lunch was held and the rest
of the time was spent visiting.
The Friendly Club had their
Christmas Party at Jay's restaur-
ant in Newberg Monday night.
They had dinner and exchanged
gifts. Those present were: Mr. ~ICYCLES

Highlight of the new season of
activities of the Josephine Jr. Me.
trons, under the presidency of
Jeanne Youngblood, w~s the Oc-
tober 9 tour of the historic Pit-
tack Mansion in Portland. N~ne
members assembled-at the home
of Nancy Sweeney and met for
lunch at Roses~ Restaurant. Roses'
introduced the pgpular Reuben
sandwich to the west coast and is
noted for its delicious sandwich-
es, speciality dessert and pastries.
Located at 3229 NW Pittock
Drive, Pittock Mansion is nearly
a ,thousand feet above the city of
Portland, commanding a view of
two states 'and five mountain
peaks in the Cascade range. The
house is on a 46-acre tract which
comprises Pittock Acres Park.
Henry L. Pittock, founder of Port-
hnd's Daily Oregonian, began
,plans for ,the mansion in 19~, R
w~s .purchased in 1964 by ,the
city of Portland.
An interesting insight of
French Renaissance al~dstry was
a~orded by the excursion, espe-
cially spectac~ar, was the view
adjacel~t to the mansion.
Touring hours are from 1 pm
to 5 pm Wednesday through Sun-
day. Friday is half-price fee day.
Special Christmas decorations
adorn the mansion from Decem-
ber 10 through Dec. 31.

Mark Phillips, the son of Mrs.
Wesa Phillips of Dayton, has re-
turned from Naval basic training
at San Diego, Calif. He graduat-
ed as seaman appren.t~ce and is
sta,tioned on the USS Tarwa.
Following his furlough, Phil-
lips returns to San Diego for
pre-commission training and then
goes to Mississippi before leaving
for the Virgin Islands.
He is the grandson of Mr. and
Mrs. M. A. Palmer, also of Day-
ton.
